 Spotlight on Canyon Creek Elementary~Pay It Forward~Fort Hood Soldiers

 

Spotlight on Canyon Creek Elementary and Ft. Hood Canyon Creek Elementary in NW Austin went all out for their “Pay It Forward” campaign. They chose to make a difference for troops deploying to Afghanistan from Fort Hood, TX by making individual packages for the soldiers.

Barbara Cowman was in charge of the campaign (Barbara has a third grader at Canyon Creek Elementary). To help the children understand how military people serve they invited Tina Zientek, U.S. Air Force, Lieutenant Colonel, Amy Hall, Mental health Specialist in the National Guard from 1989-1994 (both Canyon Creek residents) and James LaVelle, Lieutenant, U.S. Navy to speak to the students.

Paying it forward

Excitement built and the children brought in snacks, drink powders, socks and flashlights. They decorated paper sacks which the items were delivered in and wrote a personal thank you to the soldiers. Barbara Cowan and Ann Okamura, with a young soldiers help, delivered the packages to the USO who in turn delivered them to the soldiers as they boarded their plane.

What a difference these children have made for the soldiers headed off for a tour in Afghanistan! Just one more lesson in giving back that happens all year long in Canyon Creek Elementary. Education is much more than learning your ABC’s. Learning to be productive and caring to others is a lesson learned by example and being exposed to the wonderful sense of happiness and self-confidence you feel when you do something for others.

Thank you Canyon Creek Elementary staff, parents and students for “Paying it Forward” to the soldiers at Fort Hood who deployed to Afghanistan!

My objective is to provide you with a Real Estate Market snapshot of the Canyon Creek community in NW Austin. This report reviews the current market conditions and expectations as we continue on into second quarter of 2013.

 

Canyon Creek in NW Austin 78726

 

Canyon Creek is one of the most desired neighborhoods in NW Austin. It’s a prestigious master planned community that boasts several parks, a Junior Olympic pool, tennis courts, nature trails, top notch public schools, close proximity to our lakes, extensive entertainment and dining options. Canyon Creek offers homes from the high $200,000’s to the mid $500,000’s and includes 2 gated sections offering detached garden/condo home living options. 

 

One of the gated communities called the Villas at Canyon Creek by David Weekley Homes is currently building out the last of the 53 detached condos. I’ve separated these out from the resale properties.

 

Active Listings in Canyon Creek

 

As of May 6th the inventory in Canyon Creek is low with only 5 homes on the market. There is less than 1 month of inventory available thus creating a true seller’s market. If you are thinking of selling in Canyon Creek this spring it is an excellent time to get your home listed. If you are priced and staged well your home will sell.

The pending sales in Canyon Creek; has risen to 20 pending homes, which bodes well for the spring market. It is good to see buyers finding homes in the Canyon Creek real estate market in-spite of the slimming inventory.

“Foodie” Friday in Austin ~ 5-3-13

I was reading an article about how venture capitalists are making bigger bets on food start-ups with on demand delivery service. Well, Austin has been doing this for years with The Soup Peddler! The owner, David Ansel, says his “interest in cuisine was stoked by markets and street food from around the world.”  After sending out emails to his friends asking if he could bring them soup.  Part of the promise he made to those friends was that he would bring them their soup on a bike…then, as he says:

“The Soup Peddler” was born….http://souppeddler.com

Here’s how it works:  The Soup Peddler offers a menu every week consisting of soups, entrees, sides, salads and desserts either for delivery or you can pick it up at the store. You need to place your order anytime before midnight Saturday to be part of the routes for the coming week.

1-  You use the look-up tool on their website to find your neighborhood’s delivery day

2-  See what’s cooking for the next week and choose what you’d like to have

3-  On your deliver day place an iced cooler on your porch (office deliveries skip this part)

4-  When it’s time to eat, warm your food using the directions on the packaging

5-  Since their food is packaged to share, you can expect to enjoy some good company with your meal

We are expecting cooler weather starting tonight for a few days and to reflect that in a recent email I received from the Soup Peddler, they warn of what could be our “last cold front of the season” with precious moments to savor before our hot Texas summer sun takes over.  So get out and enjoy it – feel the wind in your hair, get caught in the rain and as you stand in the kitchen dripping water on the floor and ask “what’s for dinner”… if you’re lucky, your answer will be “soup” of course!

A sample of what is on the menu: Asaopao de camarones: – a Puerto Rican shrimp and rice soup with homemade fish stock; caldo de pollo – Mexican chicken and vegetable soup seasoned with cumin and cayenne with fresh cilantro, jalapeno and lime juice. Also, Yum…..a spinach cranberry feta salad made with fresh spinach, dried cranberries, candied pecans and feta cheese with a raspberry vinaigrette or how about walnut sweet potato cakes – gingered local sweet potatoes with walnuts served with curried cauliflower and cucumber yogurt. Ingredients are listed for each item on the menu and you can also find gluten free if that’s what you need.  

Whatever you order will be delicious as Geno and I have ordered from them many times, have it delivered to us right here at the office and have always been pleased! Prompt, courteous and delicious….you can’t beat that!!
